Completing an Individual Interactive Brokers Account – Level 1 Options

1. Start Your Application

  • Create a username and password

  • Confirm your email address

  • Select Individual Brokerage Account

  • Choose whether the account is Individual or Joint

  • Click Start Application


2. Enter Personal Details

  • Complete your personal information

  • Enter your mobile number in the correct format: +61 followed by your number (e.g. +61400000000)

  • If using a driver’s licence and there is no card number, enter N/A

  • Select No if neither you nor any immediate family are employed by a broker-dealer (if applicable)

  • Set Source of Wealth to: Income from Employment


3. Account Settings

  • Leave Account Type as: Trading Account

  • Leave Base Currency as: Australian Dollar

  • Choose your securities question based on your personal experience


4. Configure Trading Permissions

This section is important to ensure your account is approved for trading:

  • For Stocks:

    • Set Experience, Trades Per Year, and Years of Experience based on the experience of our Trading Desk

  • For Options:

    • Again, use the Trading Desk’s experience for these fields

    • Select Level 1 Options

    • Choose More Products Now


5. Add Products and Countries

  • This will enable Currency/Forex

  • Scroll up and select Additional Products

  • Choose Complex or Leverage Products

  • Scroll back down and add USA to Options countries


6. Complete Regulatory and Tax Questions

  • Answer No to the Regulatory Information question

  • Leave the US tax section as: “I do not qualify for US tax treaty benefits”


7. Review and Sign

  • Review all the information you’ve entered

  • Submit your application


8. Follow Up Prompts

  • You may see a notice requesting Approval for Trading in Higher Risk Products

  • Complete the following questionnaires:

    • Risk Appetite Questionnaire

    • Concentration Risk Questionnaire


9. Identity Verification

  • You may be asked to provide Proof of Identity

  • If not prompted, don’t worry — this is normal

  • Funding your account is not required immediately but may expedite approval


10. Optional: Two-Factor Authentication

  • We recommend enabling Two-Factor Authentication for additional account security
