If you receive a message stating that your Easy Trade was incorrectly submitted, it usually means that the quantity or position you entered does not match what you currently hold in your account.

This guide will help you:

  • Understand why the order was rejected

  • Check your current position in your portfolio

  • Correct the trade quantity and resubmit your Easy Trade successfully

1. Why this rejection happens

An incorrect order typically means one of the following:

  • You submitted an Easy Trade for a position you don’t actually hold

  • You entered a quantity that doesn’t match your current holdings
(e.g., trying to close 700 shares when you only hold 500 shares)

To fix this, you’ll need to check your portfolio and ensure your order matches exactly.

2. Open Trader Workstation (or IB Account Management)

You can do this in either:

  • Trader Workstation (TWS) desktop app

  • Interactive Brokers Account Management via interactivebrokers.com.au

Log in using your account credentials.

3. View your portfolio positions

  1. In TWS, go to the Monitor window

  2. Select Portfolio to display:

    • All current trades/positions

    • Cash balance

    • Quantities held for each instrument

You now have a full list of everything currently running in your account.

4. Confirm your exact position quantity

Find the trade you are submitting an EasyTrade for — for example:

EVN — Evolution Mining
500 shares / 5 sold options

This tells you exactly what quantities you can act on.

5. Match your Easy Trade order to your holdings

When submitting your Easy Trade, ensure:

  • You are trading the same instrument

  • The quantity exactly matches what is shown in your portfolio

❌ Incorrect example:
Trying to close 700 shares / 7 options when you only hold 500 shares / 5 options

✔️ Correct example:
Closing the exact 500 shares / 5 options in your portfolio

If the order quantity doesn’t match your holdings, the Easy Trade will be rejected again.

6. Resubmit your Easy Trade

Once you’ve confirmed your correct position:

  1. Return to your Easy Trade submission

  2. Enter the correct quantity

  3. Submit the order again

Your trade should now be accepted successfully.

Quick reminder

Always double-check your portfolio quantity before submitting an Easy Trade, the order must match exactly what you hold in your account.
